LA Living Spaces: Photographs by Ellie Zenhari

April 23- May 30; opening reception, Sunday, April 30, 12-4 p.m.  Angels Gate Cultural Center LA Living Spaces: Photographs by Ellie Zenhari, and We Will Be Heard: Work by CSUDH Students will be on display from April 23, 2017 at the Angels Gate Cultural Center and continue through May 30, 2017.
My work documents how the Port of Los Angeles is a huge economic engine for our region, providing thousand of jobs and major revenue, but at the same time the communities near the port are constantly exposed to pollutants from the Port. My exhibition emphasizes this contrast as it is divided up into three parts, all documented with text panels by Dr. Vivian Price, including The Old Port, Housing and Environment, and Labor and Refineries.

We Will Be Heard: Work by CSUDH Students

The exhibit of CSUDH student work, We Will Be Heard, includes photographs of the Los Angeles Port and its inherent environmental issues by students.  Also on display will be Subvertisement posters, where student designers have subverted advertising to focus on social justice issues, zines designed by students as part of the DH Art Collective and curated by student Allison Garcia, and selected paintings and mixed media sculptures by students from the Art and Design Studio Art classes. Coordinator for all the exhibits on behalf of CSUDH was Kathy Zimmerer, Director, University Art Gallery, Art and Design Department, with participating faculty member Michele Bury, Chair and Professor, Art and Design Department, CSUDH. Our student’s work include photography, paintings, Subertisements, Mixed Media Sculptures, Zines and more. Here is the link to the event. http://angelsgateart.org/opening-reception-april-30/
